Payroll Team Lead

The Team Lead Payroll is responsible for leading a team and managing payroll for multiple entities. This includes strong people and stakeholder management skills, whilst coordinating & checking the payroll with external vendors, preparing the journal and making sure payments are made timely & accurately. The Team Lead Payroll is responsible for the coaching and developing your team members as well as inspiring them to achieve the best results.

In this role you will be expected to maintain relationships with external payroll vendors as well as internal stakeholders. The Team Lead Payroll will be part of an international team, who manage payroll for our offices in Europe, Middle East, Africa, Latin America, Asia and Oceania.


To achieve team goals

  • Form, influence and execute on global payroll strategy
  • Mentor, supervise and coordinate the activities of a payroll team of 5-10 FTE
  • Counselling and coaching employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results
  • Manage payroll workload to meet operational requirements;
  • Drive conversations regarding your team member’s development, setup operational goals
  • Maintain a vision for each individual and for the entire team
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

To achieve business goals

  • Act as a functional expert and main contact point regarding payroll related escalations
  • Ensure and oversee compliance with statutory reporting and filing requirements
  • Stay up to date with local payroll regulations
  • Manage relationships with various stakeholders and global payroll providers with focus on compliance and payroll accuracy
  • Be point of contact on country level for internal and external audits by coordinating payroll feedback and escalating to global leaders when necessary
  • Oversee relationships with external payroll providers by tracking their performance and establishing KPIs for improvement when necessary
  • Coordinate payroll approvals & funding instructions with the Finance team
  • Act as a 2nd level reviewer of payrolls and other statutory/ad-hoc payments in detail
  • Drive to prepare monthly payroll reconciliations, journal and accrual reports
  • Take ownership and represent the payroll function during ongoing HR projects
  • Share experience and step into projects related to multi-country payroll on a global level
  • Review and suggest process optimisations to ensure alignment with local rules and global processes, and compliance
  • Provide support to other regional payroll team managers/leads as a backup


  • 5+ years of experience working in an payroll/accounting environment
  • Experience in team management and coaching
  • Experience in payroll for at least one of our EMEA main accounts (Spain, France, Italy, Germany)
  • Experience managing internal and external stakeholders such as other HR functions, employees, and local payroll providers
  • Experience with HR technologies (Workday, SAP, Peoplesoft)
  • Excellent communication skills in English and one more language
  • Ability to work effectively as an individual and as a team member
  • Ability to manage fast paced environment
  • Ability to take ownership of payroll processes
  • Problem solving mindset & positive attitude
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to multitask
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
