Design Chapter Lead

ING is looking for a Chapter Lead at the Design Center of Expertise (Market Leaders). The CoE is the home for all designers in Belgium and in The Netherlands. At the CoE, designers and researchers work in 10 Expert Teams led by 4 Chapter Leads and 1 CoE Lead/Chapter Lead. This vacancy is based in The Netherlands.

Role Profile
We are looking for an experienced/senior designer. You share our passion for developing and coaching individual designers and design expert teams towards high performance, always ready to go the extra mile for colleagues and customers. Together with the other Chapter Leads you form a strong team and act as the custodian of user centred design quality for our digital channels, managing the delivery of research and design artefacts for all projects and initiatives.

As a Chapter Lead at the Design CoE your main responsibilities are:

  • Manage and lead a team of designers (10 to 12 FTE)

  • Coach, guide, improve and assess individual designers and expert teams

  • Build and manage effective partnerships in- and outside of ING

  • Play a key role in driving the growth and success of the CoE

  • Initiate, lead and execute projects and tasks for the benefit of the CoE

Where?
The Design Center of Expertise started in January 2020 and is a spin-out of the Tribe Digital Retail (formerly known as Omnichannel Experience). We are a cross-border Center of Expertise based in Brussels and Amsterdam. This vacancy is based in Amsterdam.

We are experts in Service Design, User Experience Design, Interaction Design, Visual Design, User Research and Usability Validation. At the Design CoE we are building a high quality user experience and design practice. We initiate and document best practice design methodology, patterns, style guides and the creation of design artefacts and -documentation. Together with the design departments in other ING countries we co-develop the ING design system.

Together with Business and IT, we are committed to deliver the best digital experience for today’s and tomorrow’s customer, both accessible and attractive. This is our mandate. This is what we believe: Good design is good business!

The center of expertise is a centralized place for all designers to ensure alignment and optimization of this scarce but crucial resource. Our purpose is to be the leading creative force that can solve any challenge.

What we expect from you!

When you talk, your colleagues listen. You get people excited no matter the mission! When people talk, you listen. You are there for others and they can open up because they know you genuinely care.

You share our vision and you understand what is required to improve our impact on customers and ING. Your “can do” attitude is known, you use it as an asset to bring the CoE to a new and higher level. Your track record and past interactions speak for itself. Colleagues love to work with you. You are a team player who understand that the success of the CoE depends on how well we can work as ONE team.

You are known outside of the Design CoE and have an extensive network within ING that you can use to support your chapter and the Design CoE. You are very familiar with ING’s organisational structure and you can apply this knowledge for the benefit of the CoE.

Good design is good business. You understand financial institutions, their context and challenges in the current market circumstances. You are familiar with ING global and local strategy. You can link the big picture to what is required for the Design CoE to support ING.

Further requirements:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in a digital design, development and delivery environment. As a designer, product owner or in a similar role

  • University or higher vocational degree; preferably in a design related field or subject or proven strong affinity with design

  • Senior level experience in user centred design and design thinking across mobile and web based environments, designing complex solutions for digital media

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate concepts clearly across different audiences and varying levels of the organization

  • Solid understanding of working in an Agile way, dealing with prioritization and multi-disciplinary teams

  • Written and spoken fluency in English
