ING is looking for a Product Owner Model Development Data and Automation

Financial Risk Model Development comprises of a team of around 150 modelling experts, who are determined to develop the best possible financial risk models to empower the customers of ING to stay ahead financially, in life and business. Our expertise lies in the development and management of Market Risk, Credit and Trading Risk and Financial Markets models, with state-of-the-art modelling methods, tooling and data processing technologies.

Consisting of 6 staff members, the IRB Model Development Data and Automation squad is part of the Quantitative Methods Team, which is an energetic international team with highly qualified professionals. The squad is a linking pin between the teams developing the models and the departments that are working on efficient and consistent enablers. The team collects and defines the data requirements and quality requirements for model development purposes. As such, it is involved in in the design of bank-wide structural data sourcing solutions together with COO and IT colleagues. In addition, the team coordinates Automation activities for model development and model maintenance from a central model development perspective. Although not limited to that field, the short term focus of the team is primarily on credit models, given the huge (regulatory) agenda. All products and geographical regions in the ING Bank portfolio are in scope of the team.

What does a Product Owner Model Development Data and Automation do?

Together with your team, you play a crucial role enabling the development and maintenance of models for measuring and managing risks. You proactively manage and steer the requirements, roll-out and application of new tools and products for model development. You set up structures and processes to achieve interaction on use. You identify key priorities and steer activities based on those priorities you are able to delegate work to team members, and you monitor progress and solve or escalate issues when they arise. By coaching the team members, you help them with self-development, while simultaneously improving the value delivery capabilities. You support in delivering structural improvements in the data delivery process by e.g. improving the methodology for calculating derived data fields. You set detailed requirements for data delivering stakeholders, and support development and testing of automation tooling for model development and monitoring. You communicate and cooperate with the key stakeholders in Global Data Management and COO Risk & Finance.

Your backpack should contain

  • An academic degree (MSc or PhD) in econometrics, statistics, mathematics or similar quantitative field
  • Knowledge of banking and financial industry, financial and lending products, and processes
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving execution skills
  • Experience in designing operational processes
  • Experience in being a sparring partner/advisor to senior management
  • Organizational skills to work in a structured way and maintain focus on the broader picture
  • Experience of organizing a (project) teams, and coaching the team members
  • Experience with development of credit models by application using internal data
  • Preferably experience in using data modelling software or packages
  • Experience with (central) data gathering and processing
  • An independent, creative and pro-active mind-set
  • Focus on delivering pragmatic and feasible solutions
  • Skills to effectively communicate with stakeholders (with non-technical background)
  • Fluent English language skills
