Job description

Your flexible traineeship program of 18-24 months will start in Q2 2021. In this period you will rotate between the following departments: 

  • Group Reporting
  • Trade Accounting
  • Business Intelligence
  • Finance/Treasury
  • Risk Management
  • Business Planning and Analytics
  • Field Office (abroad)

Group Reporting 
The department is responsible for the monthly consolidation and group reporting for the Glencore Agriculture Group, existing of over 180 companies. The team also handles the quarterly forecasting and yearly budgeting process together with the Business Planning & Analysis team. Most important deliverables are the consolidated external financial statements as well as management reports for shareholders and internal management. The department is also involved in ad-hoc projects and information requests.

Trade Accounting
Within this team the focus is on the preparation and analysis of the worldwide trading results, as well as producing management reports for trading desks in Rotterdam and around the group. An important cornerstone of the trading results is the valuation of the various trading books, including derivatives. The department is also involved in ad-hoc projects and information requests.

Business Intelligence
This team is responsible for the development and maintenance of both the Global Agriculture Data Warehouse, the local EU Data Warehouse and the BI reporting platform. In these datawarehouses, the team is active in business analysis, BI architecture, Oracle/Data Warehouse development and report development.

Risk Management
The Risk department is responsible for the day-to-day analysis and distribution of the company's global market exposures to traders and management. Such reports include volumetric positions, Value at Risk calculations, Daily PnL and options analysis. This requires constant interaction with the commercial department in order to ensure that current activities are in line with the company's accepted risk appetite and verified at an arm's length basis.

Finance/ Treasury
The Finance department covers 4 different areas: Treasury attracts external funding to finance the Agriculture division worldwide and executes foreign exchange transactions to hedge currency risk positions. Credit risk assesses counterparty risk: vetting new companies and advising the payment terms and monitoring exposures. Trade Finance provides the Trade department with quotes for financial costs for future transactions involving products such as Letters of Credit and Bank Guarantees that are provided by commercial banks. Structured Finance explores arbitrage opportunities to generate additional returns on our existing trade flows. 

Business Planning & Analysis
The department goal is to ensure that senior management, the board and shareholders have the necessary information and analysis to make informed decisions. The team's key deliverables include the updating of the group strategic guidelines and capital allocation framework, the presentation of the yearly budget to key stakeholders, the identification of each business units' KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) as well as the analysis of new investment opportunities (M&A and organic growth projects).

Field office assignment
At the final stage of your traineeship, you will go to one of our field offices to work on a project to gain international exposure to our business. The destination and duration will vary depending on the current business challenges.

To challenge you on your project and analytical skills and to increase your general knowledge about our company, you will work on a group project during your traineeship. To enhance collaboration, you will be part of a project group together with the other Commercial and Financial trainees. One of our experienced specialists will guide you through this project.

In this analytical and challenging traineeship we require:

  • Masters degree in Financial Economics, Accounting, Financial Investments or Econometrics;
  • 0-3 years' experience;
  • Relevant internship/work experience, preferably in Commodity Trading industry;
  • Entrepreneurial mindset;
  • Good IT skills;
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).
