AkzoNobel’s Coatings Industrial Finishes business area (BA) produces a number of leading industrial coatings for wooden surfaces and brands that meet and anticipate the needs of customers all over Europe. Your mission in this role is, supported by our Senior Application Specialists, to provide technical support and training to customers on the use and application of Wood Coatings products, services, equipment and documentation. In doing so you also play a role in acquiring new business and in maintaining good relationships with existing customers.

Technical Service Manager

The role and its responsibilities

This is a key Technical Service position which is home-based However, you will travel over 80% of the time, mostly in the Southern of the Netherlands and Belgium. Occasionally you visit AkzoNobel locations in Germany for training purposes.

Your core function is to help us deliver training to customers on the use and application of the company products, equipment and documentation both on-site at the customer’s location and at our training center. Thus you conduct demonstrations, transfer knowledge and help customers solve technical problems. You also perform technical scans and audits at designated customers.

Further, you support product development with prototype selection advice and help to implement new products and technologies.

Another key aspect of the role is to help the Sales Representative and Sales departments with key phases of the sales process. In this regard you deliver progress reports, proactively submitting information regarding market trends and providing recommendations for improvements in the approach to the marketplace.

At all times you synchronize with all departments using CRM, and you update key customer databases with valid, accurate and complete information (visits, products, equipment etc.). You also cooperate with the technical department in handling complex technical issues.

Finally, you advise senior management on training methods, recruit participants for the relevant technical courses, and gain commitment for customer attendance.

Needless to say it is essential that you develop expert knowledge of the features and benefits of the relevant products/services. You also become familiar with all applicable corporate as well as site policies/procedures with regard to personal conduct/HSE standards and acts in compliance with all regulations.

At all times you promote a positive company image and seek to develop long-term relations with the customers.

Candidate profile
  • To apply for this position you must possess the following attributes:
  • MBO to bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience;
  • At least three years of Wood Coatings experience;
  • Able to travel over 80% of the time while work to a flexible schedule and sometimes staying away overnight;
  • Fluently in Dutch (mother tongue)
  • Able to stand in training sessions and customer workshops etc for long periods of time;
  • Solid communication, writing, interpersonal and presentational skills including a high standard of written and spoken English;
  • Holder of a valid driver’s license.
