The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) brings together three disciplines - electrical engineering, mathematics and computer science. Combined, they reinforce each other and are the driving force behind the technology we use in our daily lives. Technology such as the electricity grid, which our faculty is helping to make future-proof. We are also working on a world in which humans and computers reinforce each other. We are mapping out disease processes using single cell data, and using mathematics to simulate gigantic ash plumes after a volcanic eruption. There is plenty of room here for ground-breaking research. We educate innovative engineers and have excellent labs and facilities that underline our strong international position. The Assistant Professor will play an important role in further developing the existing education program in the area of statistics. In addition, the candidate will be active in acquiring and managing externally funded projects. The teaching load is about 50% of the working time.

Research at Delft Institute of Applied Mathematics (DIAM) is conducted in six research groups: Analysis, Applied Probability, Mathematical Physics, Numerical Analysis, Optimisation, and Statistics. Our research on the construction and analysis of mathematical models related to science and engineering is both fundamental and applied in nature and is often inspired by technical and societal challenges. We have, for instance, tackled complex mathematical problems to develop a model for predicting the flow of ash pollution after a volcano eruption. To come up with innovative solutions we maintain intensive contact with other TU Delft departments, technological institutes and research departments.
Besides research, education is an important cornerstone of our department. We teach the Applied Mathematics BSc and MSc programmes, as well as mathematics courses within other programmes at TU Delft, and national programmes such as “MasterMath”. Together with KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden) and the Technical University of Berlin (Germany) we have also initiated the international joint Master’s programme COSSE (Computer Simulations for Science and Engineering).

The candidate has a PhD in Mathematics or a related discipline (e.g. Econometrics) and is specialized in Statistics, preferably with post-doctoral experience.
The candidate shows promise and potential to be a leading researcher and an inspiring and dedicated teacher. He/she has a good track record in the research field of Statistics, visible from refereed publications in high-quality journals. He/she has also shown to be able to collaborate with researchers in application areas, e.g. related to the engineering disciplines of the TU Delft.
The university sets specific requirements for the English competence of its faculty, and offers training to improve the level if that should be necessary. In addition, applicants should be willing to learn Dutch.
For candidates at the Assistant Professor level we offer an inital temporary position with the prospect of a permanent position. The duration of the temporary position is depending on (academic) experience. At the start of your employment, section leader, department leader and you will agree upon expected performance and (soft) skills as part of a development plan. You will receive formal feedback on performance and skills during annual assessment meetings and during a formal evaluation after a maximum of 2.5 years. If the performance and skills are evaluated positively during this formal evaluation, you will be employed in a permanent Assistant Professor position.
