Tesla is looking for a Senior Counsel, Energy Products based in Amsterdam to support the growth of our energy business in EMEA. As our first dedicated EMEA energy lawyer, you will cover all of our energy products (Solar, Solar Roof, Powerwall, Powerpack and microgrids) as well as our related software platforms. You will focus on our core European markets but will also support our expansion into emerging markets in the Middle East and Africa. Our ideal candidate would be qualified in both England and a civil law jurisdiction, speak English and another major European language, have a big-firm background in (energy-focused) project finance or construction, have a solid understanding of European consumer law issues, and be passionate about accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy. •Provide advice on a wide variety of strategic, regulatory and transactional matters for the Energy Products business in EMEA.
•Advise on the sale, installation and maintenance of Powerwall, Powerpack, Megapack, Solar and Solar Roof, both direct to consumers and through channel partnerships.
•Structure and negotiate aggregation and virtual power plant arrangements with utilities and energy services providers.
•Structure and negotiate equipment supply, EPC, O&M, performance guarantee and warranty agreements for energy storage and solar + storage projects (both utility scale and behind-the-meter).
•Review and help prepare responses to requests for proposals and other competitive tenders.
•Support new market entry and new product launches for the Energy Products business in EMEA.
•Prepare and maintain Energy Products contract forms for the EMEA region.
•Conduct regular legal department trainings for Tesla sales and operations employees in the EMEA region.
•Liaise with colleagues in the US and APAC to ensure consistency of contracts and risk allocation across the global Energy Products business.
•Excellent academic credentials from a top-ranked university and or equivalent working expierence.
•A current practicing certificate in one or more EU jurisdictions.
•A minimum of 10 years’ PQE at a well-regarded law firm, with in-house experience at a multi-national strongly preferred.
•Significant transactional experience in energy, construction, project finance or a related practice area, with a preference for renewable energy experience.
•A team player with the ability to proactively identify problems, drive projects, make complex cost/benefit assessments, and identify pragmatic/creative legal and business solutions.
•Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively and to juggle competing priorities in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
