Optical Engineer, Materials Engineering

The Role:

This position in the Manufacturing Innovations Team will focus on driving the design and engineering of optical components such as camera lenses, displays or automotive exterior materials. You will perform simulations involving focusing and non-focusing optical devices, using techniques such as ray tracing. You will establish design rules and specifications for existing or new optical components. You will understand the relationship between environmental conditions and the performance of optical components. You will propose original concepts based on scientific analysis to improve our products.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform focusing optical components simulation using sequential and non-sequential ray tracing, assess the quality of optical components design and provide actionable feedback to the component suppliers
  • Perform photorealistic ray tracing simulations in order to render physics-based quantitatively accurate pictures and irradiance maps
  • Interact with the Autopilot, Infotainment and Design teams and provide feedback based on scientific analysis
  • Develop new knowledge in areas required by the investigation of new technologies, with an analysis rooted in fundamental physics and mathematics, use problem solving and critical thinking abilities
  • Propose innovative concepts that will benefit our products

Requirements:

  • BS/MS Degree in Mechanical, Materials Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related field
  • Good understanding of physics, especially optics, and mathematics
  • Coding skills with at least one programming language such as Python, C++,Java or similar
  • Experience with optical software such as Zemax, CodeV, ANSYS SPEOS, Ocean or similar is appreciated
  • Experience in camera and lens design is appreciated
