Content Design Manager - Lounge

The Zalando Product Design community brings together over 190+ product designers, content designers, and user researchers, each with their own unique mix of skills. We combine empathy, science, and creativity to make engaging and joyful user experiences to ultimately reimagine fashion for the good of all.

Working in tandem with other design disciplines and connecting the dots between the product experience and Zalando’s broader communications landscape, our content designers/UX writers use words to design experiences you want to have again.

Sitting at the intersection of UX and UI, content strategy, integrated messaging and localization, they lead the charge on a variety of missions within a diverse range of business areas. Mix in an ample smattering of behavioral economics, A/B/C tests, as well as engaging and inclusive storytelling, and you’ll find a community that’s building to become Zalando’s central point of copy intelligence.

Zalando Lounge

As the first member of Lounge’s content design team, you will write and establish best practices, ways of working, team vision and strategy, and the target state for the discipline.

You will participate in designing community rituals, help evolve the content designer role and its contribution to the product development process beyond Zalando Lounge, and co-drive hiring your team.


As a content design/UX writing leader at Zalando you will work with interdisciplinary leadership teams focused on creating coherent strategies to understand and solve a defined set of customer needs.

On the B2C side, you will impact the experience of over 46 million Zalando customers and help turn Zalando into the platform that doesn’t just talk customisation and personalisation, but weds technology with written, visual, and interactive content to build a brand with strong character.

On the B2B side, you will help level the playing field for our fashion brands, partners and retail stores by building an unprecedented online platform for fashion.

On the human side, you will build healthy teams and nurture safe and inclusive spaces for people.


Experience. You are a seasoned design professional who comes with an ample range of content design/UX writing skills built on top of brand, marketing, product marketing, or editorial experience, and have a track record in human-centred storytelling. While you've seen design orgs at different levels of scale and maturity, and have likely led larger teams before, you are inspired to help evolve the role and its contribution to the product development process, improve and establish best practices, ways of working, hiring, and the target state for both the discipline and the content design community across the company. To land the position, you will show artefacts defining written content and design work, and be able to explain how you have led people to execute tactically in a complex environment.

Empathy. You have the mindset and methodologies to understand your team, colleagues, and customers and dive deep to solve truly meaningful problems that make people feel understood. You guide your team through moments of ambiguity and create a safe and inclusive space in which people perform at their personal and collective best.

Craft. You master the full spectrum of content design methods, choreograph UX design processes, and orchestrate unified experiences over multiple journeys, touchpoints, and channels across markets and locales — all while knowing how to embody specific solutions in usable and delightful interactions.

Experimentation. You are willing to kill your darlings. You take a forward-looking generative approach and make design decisions on evidence. You guide your team to solve problems in the best way possible. You know when to work iteratively and when to take bold bets. You are excited about the technical opportunities on a vast, multi-market, multi-language platform whether we’re talking microcopy, video, or chatbots that sound human (without pretending to be).

Persuasion. You facilitate and communicate clearly, set stakeholder expectations, explain design/copy rationales, build common understanding, and spread excitement around a customer experience vision. You consult teams on how to design with language. You are willing to challenge, convince, motivate, and inspire to get remarkable and marketable solutions delivered.

As part of a growing design management circle, you will step up to drive design ops topics like design critique, onboarding, or team rituals — and to actively contribute to overarching topics that affect us all (like hiring, team health, diversity and inclusion).

In close collaboration with product designers, user researchers, product managers, engineering managers, and data scientists, your team will deliver best-in-class user experiences.
