System Safety Engineer (m/f/d)


We are looking for experts from all over the world who are seeking for international experience in our multicultural teams and who would like to relocate to Australia.

The System Safety Engineer provides specialist expertise with regard to safety, functional and error analyses and is responsible for assuring the safety and conformance with legislation of products provided by Rheinmetall Defence Australia.

As the System Safety Engineer (m/f/d) you can anticipate some of your day-to-day tasks to include:

  • Responsibility for Product Safety as delegated by the system safety manager, including escalation of RDA Product Safety matters as required;
  • Product Safety for one or more development programmes, assuring compliance with RDA Product Safety processes and establishment/satisfaction of safety requirements;
  • Provide specialist advice as required;
  • Performing analysis workshops;
  • Tracking and tracing of safety-related requirements;
  • Consulting of projects regarding the implementation of safety goals;
  • Analysing development results;
  • Creating test reports
  • Contribute to improving RDA-wide Product Safety Management System, Policies and processes including project effort estimates for product safety;
  • Creation of RDA Safety artefacts (System Safety Programme Plans and Safety Case Reports etc);
  • Collaboration with project teams to guide them to developing safe and legally compliant products;
  • Contribute to RDA-wide (Product) Safety Culture initiatives; and
  • Contribute to transition of L400-P2 safety assurance capability between Germany and Australia.

Rheinmetall seeks applicants who exemplify our Company’s values of Respect, Trust and Openness. This creates a workplace environment where employees value each other, live up to their promises and communicate openly.

The experience and skillset best suited to this role include:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering;
  • Demonstrated experience in a military vehicle or automotive Safety Engineering;
  • Working knowledge of a broad range of safety standards and norms across multiple Defence domains to include MIL-STD-882 and IEC61508;
  • Previous experience applying Product/System safety assurance within Australian/European Regulatory regime across the whole product lifecycle;
  • Previous experience liaising with National Authorities and international customers;
  • Experience in the development/review/management of Defence Product Safety Cases and design justifications;
  • Technical knowledge of weapons, sensors, C4I and combat systems within a defence domain;
  • Experience in the regulatory certification of Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions, and Explosives (NATO/National level);
  • Be eligible for an Australian Government Security Clearance; and
  • An ability to travel internationally and interstate when and if required.
