IEG Data Engineer (m/f/d)


  • Perform data mining, engineering and analytics on RWD sources, to inform our IEG strategic planning and support its execution
  • Collaborate with research teams, including both internal and external stakeholders, to help translate business and research questions into observational studies with rigorous statistical and analytic plans
  • Maintain efficiency and reliability of production of the critical datasets and engage with data scientists in data preparation and additional data connections
  • Conduct quality control measures to ensure integrity of data and program design
  • Establish links with other data engineers and data scientists across Bayer to form a learning community
  • Build new as well as evaluate and improve existing solutions to support IEG across observational research functions


  • PhD, MSc or BSc in data science, engineering, computational science, (bio-) informatics, mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, econometrics, machine learning and/or other related fields
  • Experience in working with large volumes of health data as well as strong Python/R/Scala and good SQL skills
  • Profound SQL/Pyspark skills and hands on experience with machine learning packages like Scikit Learn, Tensorflow, Pytorch, etc. as well as experience with big data platforms like Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, with based services (AWS S3, EMR, Glue) and with containers (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, EKS)
  • Knowledge of workflow management tools like Airflow/Prefect/Dagster is a strong plus
  • Knowledge of building ML Pipelines or MLOps
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to solve problems and to structure, simplify, explain and communicate complex tasks
  • Business fluent in English, both spoken and written
