The role of the Category Manager – Castings is to develop, plan and implement the procurement and logistics strategy for an assigned category or group of categories, with a focus on optimizing costs, quality, delivery and reliability. Reporting to the Global Division Supply Chain Manager, you will ensure that we keep the plants running with a reliable supply chain, accomplishing this by managing risks and costs by leveraging ABB’s requirements worldwide. Category managers find the best available globally competitive source of materials or services. They coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, and operations to add value, drive continuous improvement and satisfy our customer.

Your responsibilities
  • Leverage the Continuous Improvement Process Sourcing (CIPS) process, by implementing effective sourcing strategies in line with the overall MONM business strategy
  • Develop, negotiate, and administer contracts for key suppliers and Seeks opportunities to expand diverse supplier spend
  • Manage the supplier base in accordance with company policies (cost, reliability, quality) and provide regular performance feedback to suppliers, and drive corrective actions as required
  • Enforce terms and conditions of purchase orders and other agreements and compliance with legal requirements and company policy
  • Lead Continuous Improvement events with suppliers and in conjunction with the Operations team to maximize value across the supply chain, improving total cost of ownership while driving a cultural of continuous improvement
  • Managing, planning and tracking of procurement activities, cost budgets, emerging country spending and savings forecasts
  • Maintain knowledge of market and industry trends within area of expertise and communicate potential impact on business, including price trends and futures markets to identify opportunities resulting from market shifts and take advantage of such shifts
  • Act as central point of expertise and knowledge for users in assigned spend categories, likely spend is about $30M to $40M yearly
Your background
  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum 8 years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment, supply chain, purchasing, sourcing, operations are required OR
  • Master's degree and minimum 6 years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Open to travel about 10% - including overseas business trips
  • Excellent analytical, communication and leadership skills
  • APICS or ISM certification is highly desired
  • Preferred to have experience with casting
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the USA
