Design Manager for Retail Core - Order Management and Assortment (B2B), Berlin
We’re looking for a design manager for 3-6 product designers within our Retail Core organization. Together with the team, you will materialize product strategy by delivering step-changing solutions to customer and business problems, while managing a team of product designers. You will lead the PM-Design-Dev triad for core initiatives through the UX-solution-design phases of the product development process. You will guide your team through moments of ambiguity and create a safe and inclusive space in which people perform at their personal and collective best. You will help our growing Retail Operations Design team to run efficiently, effectively, and enjoyably.

Design Manager for Zalando Fulfillment Solutions (B2B), Berlin
We’re looking for a Design Manager to lead in a quite hands-on manner a small, fast-growing product design team for Zalando Fulfillment Solutions. You will work closely with your Product and Engineering counterparts to own and drive various design initiatives for B2B and Enterprise. Within the web-app zDirect you will solve and improve various aspects of the fulfillment journey for our partners — things like stock performance, operations management and logistics. You’ll also manage the design of various internal tools we are creating for our internal business and operations team. To drive these initiatives, you will have direct exposure towards our Suppliers/Partners and internal business stakeholders as users and customers of these products. You will bring experience in B2B service design and have overseen both qualitative and quantitative user research.

Head of Design Systems & Communication for Zalando Direct (B2B), Berlin
We're looking for a Head of Design to lead and grow the team that looks after our unified Design System, where design principles, components, guidelines, and styles are shared between different partner-facing products. Our design system lives on Figma, and in Storybook on the engineering side.
As part of the Leadership team in Product Design at Zalando, you will be responsible for specific emphasis on the Design Systems across B2B and B2E applications for zDirect and Retail Operations, as well as the communication strategies and brand design for partner facing communications. You would take end-to-end ownership for growing a central design system & communications team for Supply.

Design Manager for Search & Personalization (B2C), Berlin
We are seeking a Design Manager based in Berlin to lead a team of 2-4 Product Designers. You will help grow a team designing and delivering personalised experiences for our millions of customers. Collaborating with senior stakeholders within Product Management, Design, and Engineering you will shape the customer experience vision to achieve our strategic search, browse, profile and personalisation goals. Skilled at reducing ambiguity in complex projects to simplify customer data and navigational solutions. You are experienced in people development and have a passion for creating a supportive and inclusive team environment.

Design Manager for Zalando Beauty (B2C), Berlin
Beauty is a new department, founded 3 years after the first launch of beauty to improve, innovate and scale the customer journey in the beauty proposition. You would be leading a small team of 3 - growing the team, giving strategic guidance and developing the individuals. Ideally, you get involved hands-on in shaping the beauty journey. You will support us sharpen our understanding of the beauty customer with the help of a dedicated user researcher and propose business opportunities. They will connect the dots from beauty branding in the fashion store, to beauty inspiration & advice as well as evaluating and implementing 3rd party solutions where applicable.

WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS NEEDED

As a design leader at Zalando you will work with interdisciplinary leadership teams focused on creating coherent strategies to understand and solve a defined set of customer needs. On the B2C side, you will impact the end customer experience of over 31 million Zalando customers. On the B2B side, you will help level the playing field for our fashion brands, partners and retail stores by building an unprecedented online platform for fashion.

As a Design Manager you will lead one of our Zalando digital product design teams in Berlin where your focus is to drive and build healthy inclusive teams promoting diversity. In our core business, you will likely guide the design team delivering on a certain customer-centered opportunity space. Or you might lead the design team in one of our internal “start-up” ventures, new business initiatives or B2B products.

As a Head of Design you might lead several teams (managing managers and ICs alike, potentially across locations) or drive impact on a strategic topic with a small team of direct reports.

As a Director or Vice President (VP) of Design you would take executive responsibility for a broad set of teams delivering solutions for a certain customer — either B2C, B2B or B2E (employee-facing enterprise software).

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
  • Experience: You are a very seasoned design professional with xperience building & growing inclusive team environments. While you have likely led larger teams before, you are inspired to dive deep to solve truly meaningful problems that make customers feel like we understand them. To land a design management job at Zalando, you will show and explain raw artefacts from your work defining product design strategy, executing tactically in a complex environment and leading people to perform at their best.
  • Empathy: You have the mindset and methodologies to understand your customers, colleagues and employees. You guide your teams through moments of ambiguity and create a safe and inclusive space in which people perform at their personal and collective best.
  • Craft: You master interaction design, choreograph UX design processes and orchestrate unified experiences across devices and throughout the customer journey — while knowing how to embody specific solutions in usable and delightful interactions.
  • Experimentation: You are willing to kill your darlings. You take a forward-looking generative approach and make design decisions on evidence. You guide your team to solve problems in the best way possible. You know when to work iteratively and when to take bold bets.
  • Storytelling: You bring not just users but also stakeholders and employees on a compelling journey by explaining a clear customer experience vision and telling compelling tales.

In close collaboration with other designers, user researchers, product managers, engineering managers and data scientists, your team will deliver best-in-class user experiences to lead the fashion industry.

As part of a growing design management circle, you will step up to drive specific design operations topics like design critique, onboarding or team rituals — and to actively contribute to overarching topics that affect us all (e.g. hiring, team health, diversity and inclusion).
