Together as one team, we are Here to move.The department Global Controlling is primarily responsible for the financial controlling of the Schenker Group with more than 150 companies in about 65 countries with the main focus on financial management. However, the need for more operationally oriented controlling and more support for the executive board, central departments and local entities is increasing steadily.That is why we are looking for a Business Unit Controller (*) Oceanfreight for our team “Operational Controlling” at our Head Office for ocean freight in Essen/Hamburg, Germany. Reporting to the VP Operational Controlling. Face new professional challenges in a truly international environment with a multifaceted scope of duties. As Business Unit Controller (*) Oceanfreight you will be responsible for the global operational planning and analysis of the ocean freight product at DB Schenker.

Main responsibilities
  • Analysis and monitoring of the global operational business performance against defined KPI as well as against target (Volume and GP performance analysis)
  • Analysis and monitoring of all direct and indirect cost lines against KPI and against budget/forecast (EBIT performance analysis)
  • Identifying key cost deviations on region and county level
  • Steering the regional business unit controllers
  • Managing monthly performance meetings
  • Planning (forecast, budget/target-setting) of all corporate cost centers and monitoring deviations against target and key KPI
  • Orchestrating the consolidation of the global ocean planning (forecast, budget/target-setting)
  • Initiating and steering of detailed performance analysis of non-performing countries
  • Central point of contact for our Business Unit Ocean Freight management (GOMM) regarding planning (Forecast, Budget, mid-term), monthly reporting, KPI defini-tion/tracking, setup/ tracking of operational measures
  • Furthermore, you will act as a global quality gate for all operational cost centers
  • The definition and setup of global standard reports for the respective Business Unit will also be a very important part of your daily work such as all kind of ad hoc analysis for the board and the upper management
To be successful in the above role, you should possess/ display the following key skills/attributes:
  • degree in economics / business engineering or similar
  • several years of working experience in the Controlling division
  • Profound Ocean Freight knowledge
  • high degree of individual initiative, ability to individual and structured working
  • strong analytical skills for understanding and presenting complex issues
  • confident appearance and assertiveness as well as the ability to challenge the status quo and proactively tackle problem areas
  • very good English and German skills are mandatory
  • very good Microsoft Office knowledge, especially Excel
  • affinity to an international environment
