Global Head Commercial Actives & Formulations (all genders) - Remote in EU with travel

The Actives & Formulation (A&F) Business Unit is part of Merck Life Sciences, Process Solutions Organization. A&F combines a unique market offering of API CDMO services and Formulation products for both traditional and novel modalities. We collaborate with Biotech and Pharma partners across the globe to advance their molecules to market and to support commercial supply. Your Role: As the Head of A&F Commercial, you will interact globallywith strategic key customers in the fast-changing BioPharma landscape, and shape organizational outcomes. You will cut through complex intercultural issues—helping make a lasting impact on our global organization and customer base all while positioning yourself for professional advancement. You provide leadership to the A&F Commercial function with teams across Europe, APAC and Americas to continue to develop and implement the Best-in-Class effective sales organization in the Life Science market. Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Total sales revenue responsibility: > 500 Mio EUR
  • Total number of employees supervised (in organization): > 150
  • Total operating/department budget: > 25 Mio EUR
  • Developing and executing commercial strategies and tactics aligned with Process Solutions’, A&F’ ambition, for maintaining well above industry growth levels, while managing employees and resources
  • Achieving assigned business revenue targets by directing operational activities to create in-demand global products and services
  • Developing and cultivating relationships with key clients globally. Interacting with key decision makers, and driving negotiations
  • Network within the Life Science Industry through engagements at institutions like DCAT.
  • Developing and cultivating relationships within the Merck Life Sciences organization
  • Empowering and developing people for high performance. Promoting a climate of positive employee relations by fostering communication, curiosity, and DE&I (diversity, equity & inclusion).
  • Identifying areas to drive organizational efficiencies, increase revenue, and improve company performance in a changing environment
  • Contribute to the overall A&F Business as member of the leadership team

Who you Are: We are looking for a proficient leader who is able to Engage, Empower, and Inspire a global team, both face-to-face and virtually. You have a proven track record to deliver amid complexity, can comfortably manage risk, and drive change. You have demonstrated a high level of self-motivation, have a sales-oriented mindset, assertiveness, diligence, and the will to shape the global A&F commercial organization in a post pandemic environment. We are seeking a strong inclusive Leader that encourages and drives people development.

  • BS+ degree with 15+ years professional experience.
  • Minimum 10+ years sales and leadership experience in the Life Science industry.
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 50% of the time.
  • Experienced and able to communicate comfortably at all levels of the organization
  • Owns strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Natural Sciences degree with MBA or Advanced business degree preferred
  • Commercial experience in the CDMO area preferred
  • Preferred Working Location: Europe
