Lead Engineer (m/f/d)

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
  • 6+ years of experience as a software engineer
  • Excellent core development skills in Java
  • In-depth knowledge of relational databases e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL and NoSQL databases e.g. DynamoDB, MongoDB
  • AWS Lambda, Elasticsearch, EC2, S3, SQS
  • Natural leader with a proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
  • Team leadership and management of employees, including mentoring, coaching, personal development and disciplinary
  • Strong experience of the Agile software development lifecycle and DevOps delivery, including source control management, Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery/Deployment and automated testing
  • Experience working with senior management, influencing and driving organisational change from an Engineering starting point
  • Well organised, with a logical and methodical approach to planning – good time management is essential
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills through collaboration and strong analytical ability, who puts the needs of customers first
  • A keen technologist, with a forward-thinking approach to the adoption and application of new technology
  • Effective communication skills in English. Ability and eagerness to understand the business context where the team operates and the customer problems being solved
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Capture and promote engineering success and challenges, as well as establishing and proposing solutions to drive positive change
  • Actively involve their engineers in the Objectives and Key Results (OKR) definition process so they are fully informed and committed to meeting the desired outcome
  • Ensure their engineers have the correct skills, proficiency and experience levels to meet the requirements and demands of their team and Business Unit
  • Identify and escalate areas of risk, hazards and uncertainty that are encountered to promote knowledge share across all engineers
  • Actively contribute to the recruitment and succession planning for employees within engineering
  • Proactive in sharing learnings and continuous improvement initiatives across all engineering teams
  • Collect and interpret meaningful software metrics to help engineers implement efficiency improvements and improve their teams
  • Participate in team refinement sessions and contribute to agile approach and practices
  • Ensure the agreed architectural patterns, design and approach are being followed by their engineers
  • Maintain consistent and high-quality standards through adherence to best practice and engineering processes for their all engineers
  • Advocate a healthy review culture and provide opportunities for engineers to learn from each other and work toward more effective and creative solutions, supported by regular audits and tooling
  • Balance engineering capacity constraints, through active hands-on involvement and technical contribution to a team’s delivery, where necessary
  • Performance evaluation, grading, career development for their Engineers
  • Provide detailed information and contribution to the remuneration and disciplinary process for their Engineers
  • Demonstrate and promote a positive employee-centric culture consistent with Tradebyte values
  • Promote and coach a strong culture of continuous improvement to increase efficiency, quality and reduction in development cycles
  • Disseminating management information with a leadership style and tone
  • Escalation point for employee related issues and team impediments, ensuring there is agreed and appropriate resolution
  • Manage, mentor, coach and support all their engineers in their personal development and growth
  • Responsible for all new software engineer onboarding and establish a seamless and positive introduction to Tradebyte
  • Be a translator & mediator between business and technical stakeholders
